Prince Al Saud, also known as the “sleeping prince”, died after two decades in a coma due to a traffic accident.

The Saudi Arabian royal family announced on July 19 that Prince Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud had passed away at the age of 36.

Prince Alwaleed’s funeral and vigil began on July 20 and lasted three days, held in the capital Riyadh.

In 2005, Prince Alwaleed suffered a serious car accident in London, suffering a brain hemorrhage. He remained in a coma for 20 years “under close medical supervision” and was widely known as the “sleeping prince”.

The Saudi royal family sought medical help from experts around the world, but to no avail. In 2015, doctors advised the prince to be taken off life support, but his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, refused, believing he could recover.

In 2020, Prince Al Saud moved his finger after hearing a woman calling him at his bedside, but his condition did not improve.
