Nationwide — Singer Bad Bunny sparked criticism after choosing to stay seated during the “God Bless America” performance at a New York Yankees game, while most fans stood and sang during the seventh-inning stretch.

As reported by TMZ, photos from the event showed him sitting with friends while the crowd sang the line “stand beside her and guide her.” The images quickly spread online, sparking debate among fans and critics.

The incident took place at Yankee Stadium as the team defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 9–6. Many social media users called his silence disrespectful, while others defended his right to stay seated.

The Puerto Rican singer, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been in the spotlight since being announced as a headliner for the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show. His selection has already drawn mixed reactions due to his criticism of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and his choice to primarily perform in Spanish.

Adding to the controversy, President Donald Trump dismissed the artist in an interview, saying, “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is.” House Speaker Mike Johnson also suggested that singer Lee Greenwood would have been a “better pick” for the halftime performance.
