Dallas Wings Make Big Decision on Paige Bueckers Amid Concussion originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

For the Dallas Wings, the early part of the 2025 schedule was always going to be a bit difficult. Not only did the schedule hold some opening games against behemoth opponents, but the Wings are, themselves, a relatively new team, having been pulled together from last year’s 9-31 bunch, plus key free-agent additions and, most important, No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers.

But a slow start to the season got worse last week when Bueckers banged, head-to-head, into Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot as she drove to the basket. Bueckers went down hard, and the Wings eventually lost the game.

Bueckers was placed in concussion protocol after the 97-92 loss. That meant she would miss the next two games, the first of which came Saturday again against Chicago. Bueckers is also slated to miss Tuesday night’s game, which is on the road in Seattle.

Reporter Joey Mistretta of Clutch Points noted that the Wings decided Bueckers would not even travel with the team for the game against the Storm.

He wrote: “A source confirms to me that Paige Bueckers (concussion protocol) and Ty Harris (knee) did NOT travel to Seattle. Bueckers is expected to be re-evaluated after Tuesday’s game.”

Coach Chris Koclanes had addressed the injury on Saturday.

“She didn’t really say anything, and then after the game she said she was feeling like she had a headache and said a couple things about, ‘I was hit this time and that time,’” Koclanes said. “That was the first of it, and once that was said, she went right to the doctor to make sure we’re not missing anything. … It’s a next-woman-up mentality. You never know in this league when there’s so many games, so day-to-day you’ve just always got to be prepared.”

Bueckers is averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds this season, in six appearances.
