Jimmy Kimmel brutally roasted U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Live this week after the secretary faced renewed scrutiny for reportedly including his wife, Jennifer Hegseth, in private meetings ahead of his confirmation hearing.
“The stories about this guy just keep coming,” Kimmel said of the “embattled” secretary. “Not only has he been messaging war plans to his wife, he’s been bringing her to meetings.”
But the late night host couldn’t help but reference Pete’s alleged alcohol abuse as he roasted him for bringing his wife to what were essentially job interviews. “I don’t know, maybe there’s a good reason for her to be at the meetings,” he wondered. “Maybe she’s his designated driver.”
Kimmel explained, “A number of senators were reportedly bothered because he brought his wife to what they assumed would be one-on-one meetings. And, boy, nothing inspires confidence in a guy like when he shows up to a job interview with his wife.”
He then impersonated Pete and his wife sitting in a meeting about nuclear weapons. “Here’s how I imagined that went: The US will not allow Iran to become a nuclear power and every option will be on the table to prevent that, right honey?” he added.
The Pentagon has since denied that Jennifer attended any meetings “where sensitive information or classified information was discussed,” which the late night host chose to believe because, “She doesn’t need to. If there’s anything exciting, he catches her up in a text.”
Recent reports also claim Pete ordered for a makeup studio to be set up in the Pentagon for his countless television appearances.
Kimmel took the opportunity to not only ridicule Pete, but to compare him to former President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
“You ever seen him before?” Kimmel asked the Live audience as he presented a photo of Austin. “No, you know why? He was inside the Pentagon doing his job.”
“Every day, Pete Hegseth is on TV now more than Ryan Seacrest,” he said of the former Fox anchor.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
