The talk show host has hit out against the head of DOGE.
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel delivered a scathing critique of Elon Musk, labelling him a “very bad person and a dangerous person” due to his opportunistic political manoeuvres and dissemination of misinformation.
Kimmel highlighted Musk’s inconsistent political affiliations, noting his past support for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, followed by a strategic alliance with Donald Trump. He argued that Musk’s shifting loyalties are driven by a desire to amass power and wealth, rather than genuine ideological commitment.
Kimmel told Rolling Stone that Musk is “kind of the same as Trump in a lot of ways. I mean, he supported [Barack] Obama and then Hillary [Clinton], and now it’s convenient for him to support Trump. And to me, those are the worst people. I don’t think Trump believes in any of it, and I don’t think Elon Musk believes in it. I think Elon Musk sees this as a great way to accrue a lot of power and make a lot of money, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.”
‘There’s no depth to which he will not stoop’
Kimmel expressed particular outrage over Musk’s reaction to the violent attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Musk had shared a baseless conspiracy theory suggesting the assailant was a male prostitute, which Kimmel condemned as “vile” and indicative of Musk’s willingness to exploit tragedies for personal gain: “Here’s where I realised Elon Musk was a very bad person and a dangerous person: When Nancy Pelosi‘s husband, Paul, an elderly man, was viciously attacked, his first reaction was to repost a brazenly false story suggesting that it was a male prostitute that did it. That’s when I realised, Oh, this is a bad person. There’s no depth to which he will not stoop. An old man was hit with a hammer and that’s his first reaction. It’s vile.”
The comedian also criticised Musk’s response to protests at Tesla dealerships, mocking the CEO’s plea for respect after celebrating mass layoffs with a chainsaw-wielding display.“When you pull out a chain saw to celebrate firing thousands of people, they get mad. My God. I mean, this poor guy. You do one, maybe two Nazi salutes, everybody gets all bent out of shape!” Musk responded by calling Kimmel “an unfunny jerk” he posted on Twitter.
Despite reports of tension between Musk and Trump, the two were recently seen together at a UFC event in Miami, suggesting an ongoing alliance. Kimmel’s remarks underscore his role as a vocal critic of Trumpism and its prominent supporters, using his platform to challenge figures he perceives as threats to democratic values.
