A Season of Highs and Lows for the Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever concluded their season with a 24-20 record, a journey that ended with an elimination in the semifinals at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces. The team’s campaign was significantly hampered by injuries, with key players such as Caitlin Clark, Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, and Chloe Bibby all sidelined for the season. In the face of these challenges, forward Aliyah Boston emerged as a pivotal leader on the court.

Aliyah Boston’s Breakout Performance and Recognition

Throughout the season, Boston delivered an impressive performance, averaging 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Her efforts earned her a third career All-Star nomination and, more recently, a significant honor. On Friday, it was announced that Boston was named to the All-WNBA Second Team, a first for her career. The news was met with enthusiasm from the Fever’s front office.

Amber Cox, the team’s general manager, publicly celebrated the achievement. “Big guard! What a year for AB,” Cox stated. “Incredibly proud of this amazing player and person!”

In addition to her All-WNBA selection, Boston’s defensive skills were also recognized, as she was named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team. This marks a successful conclusion to her third season in the league since being selected as the first overall pick by the Fever in the 2023 draft. Before her professional career, Boston played collegiate basketball at South Carolina, where she led her team to a national championship and personally won the prestigious John R. Wooden Award.

A Historic Achievement and a Look Ahead

Boston’s accolades were not the only good news for the Fever. Guard Kelsey Mitchell was also honored, earning a selection to the All-WNBA First Team. With these recognitions, Mitchell and Boston have become only the second duo in the Indiana Fever’s franchise history to receive All-WNBA honors in the same season. The last pair to achieve this feat was Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas, who did so in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

As for her immediate future, Boston is set to return to action this winter. She will participate in the second season of the Unrivaled three-on-three basketball league. In the league’s previous season, she played for the Vinyl BC team, where she averaged 5.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
