The Bride He Thought He Bought… and the Secret That Could Destroy Them All
“You weren’t supposed to find out like this.”
Arnav’s voice was low, almost tired.
Aarohi froze.
Her hand was still on his chest.
His fingers were still wrapped around her wrist.
But her eyes had dropped—to his legs.
They were not still.
They were not lifeless.
They were… controlled.
Alive.
She pulled her hand away slowly, as if touching him had burned her.
“You can walk.”
Not a question.
A statement.
Silence stretched between them like a blade.
Arnav exhaled once, long and steady.
“Yes.”
The word shattered everything.
Aarohi pushed herself up from the floor, stumbling back as if distance could protect her from the truth.
“No… no, that’s not possible,” she whispered. “They said—everyone said—”
“That I was paralyzed,” he finished calmly.
“You let them believe that,” she said, her voice rising.
“I didn’t just let them,” Arnav said. “I had to.”
Her laugh came out sharp, broken.
“Had to?” she repeated. “Do you even hear yourself? I was sold into this marriage because you were supposed to be… broken.”
His eyes flickered.
“And instead, I married a liar.”
Something in his expression shifted—but not guilt.
Something darker.
“You think that’s the worst part?” he asked quietly.
Aarohi stared at him.
“What could possibly be worse than this?”
Arnav slowly pushed himself up.
And stood.
Fully.
Effortlessly.
No hesitation. No weakness.
The man who had been confined to a wheelchair in front of the world for years now stood tall before her—strong, controlled, dangerous.
Aarohi’s breath stopped.
Her knees nearly gave out.
“This,” he said, “is just the beginning.”
The Truth Behind the Lie
Aarohi shook her head.
“Explain,” she demanded. “Now.”
Arnav walked past her toward the window, his movements precise, almost cautious—not from weakness, but from habit.
“I was in an accident,” he said. “That part is true.”
She stayed silent.
“But I wasn’t paralyzed.”
“Then why—?”
“Because someone wanted me out of the way.”
Her heart skipped.
“What do you mean?”
Arnav turned to face her.
“My family isn’t just wealthy, Aarohi. We’re… strategic. Power attracts enemies. And sometimes…”
He paused.
“The enemy is inside the house.”
Her stomach tightened.
“You’re saying your own family—”
“I’m saying,” he interrupted, “that after the accident, I discovered things. Deals. Transfers. Hidden accounts. Someone was siphoning power from within.”
“And pretending to be disabled helped you… what? Hide?”
“Disappear,” he corrected.
“For five years, they believed I was weak. Harmless. Dependent.”
“And you used that,” she whispered.
“Yes.”
The room felt colder.
“Then why marry me?” she asked.
Arnav’s gaze sharpened.
“Because I needed someone no one would suspect.”
Aarohi let out a bitter laugh.
“So I wasn’t a bride.”
“No.”
She looked straight at him.
“I was bait.”

A Dangerous Partnership
The words hung in the air.
Aarohi’s chest rose and fell rapidly.
“You don’t get to decide my life like that,” she said.
“You’re right,” Arnav replied.
The answer surprised her.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then he stepped closer—but slowly this time.
“Listen to me,” he said.
She didn’t move.
“If I told you the truth before the wedding, you would have refused.”
“Yes,” she snapped.
“Exactly.”
Her hands clenched.
“You manipulated me.”
“Yes.”
No denial. No apology.
Just truth.
It made her angrier.
“And now what?” she demanded. “You expect me to just… play along?”
Arnav studied her.
“No,” he said.
“I expect you to choose.”
She blinked.
“What?”
“You can leave,” he said simply. “Tomorrow. I’ll clear your father’s debts anyway.”
She stared at him, shocked.
“You would do that?”
“I already agreed to it.”
“Then why—?”
“Because if you stay,” he said, “you won’t be a victim anymore.”
Her heartbeat quickened.
“You’ll be part of this.”
The Game She Never Saw Coming
“What exactly is ‘this’?” Aarohi asked.
Arnav’s expression hardened.
“A war.”
The word sent a chill down her spine.
“Against who?”
“My uncle,” he said.
“The man who’s been slowly taking control of everything while I sit in a chair.”
Aarohi’s mind raced.
“The one who approved our marriage?”
“Yes.”
Her breath caught.
“So… he wanted me here?”
“Yes.”
“To control you?”
“Exactly.”
Aarohi felt sick.
“I walked into this blind,” she whispered.
Arnav nodded.
“Yes.”
She looked up at him.
“And you let me.”
“I needed him to believe I was still predictable.”
Silence.
Heavy.
Dangerous.
“And now?” she asked.
Arnav’s eyes darkened.
“Now he’s made a mistake.”
“What mistake?”
“He underestimated you.”
The Shift
Aarohi let out a slow breath.
Everything in her life had been decided for her.
By Meera.
By debt.
By fear.
By this man.
But now…
For the first time…
She had information.
Power.
Choice.
She walked toward him.
Stopped just inches away.
“If I stay,” she said, “I don’t follow your rules.”
A flicker of interest crossed his face.
“Go on.”
“We do this as equals.”
Silence.
Then—
A small, unexpected smile.
“Agreed.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“And no more lies.”
He hesitated.
Just for a second.
Then nodded.
“No more lies.”
The Real Enemy Revealed
A knock on the door shattered the moment.
Both of them froze.
Arnav moved instantly—back to the wheelchair.
In seconds, he was seated again, body relaxed, expression neutral.
Aarohi stared.
The transformation was terrifyingly perfect.
“Remember,” he murmured, “you don’t know.”
The door opened.
Nandita Malhotra entered.
Her sharp eyes scanned the room.
“You’re both awake,” she said smoothly.
Aarohi forced a smile.
“Yes.”
Nandita looked at Arnav.
“How are you feeling?”
“Fine,” he replied calmly.
Her gaze lingered.
Too long.
Suspicious.
Calculating.
Then she smiled.
“Good. Tomorrow will be… important.”
After she left, Aarohi turned to Arnav.
“She knows something.”
“Yes,” he said quietly.
“And we just stepped into it.”
A Dangerous Beginning
That night, Aarohi didn’t sleep.
She sat by the window, watching the palace lights fade into darkness.
Her life had been traded.
Manipulated.
Controlled.
But now…
She understood the rules.
And more importantly—
She understood the players.
Behind her, Arnav remained still in his chair.
Playing the role.
Waiting.
Planning.
And for the first time since her mother died…
Aarohi didn’t feel powerless.
She felt dangerous.
Because This Was Never Just a Marriage
It was a setup.
A war.
A deception layered over another deception.
And now—
She was part of it.
Not as a victim.
But as someone who could change the outcome.
And neither of them knew yet…
that the next betrayal would come from the one person Aarohi thought she understood best.
